The Romanian adoption process was changed in 1998 and those changes have really helped American families bring home much younger and healthier children. The process takes about 9 - 12 months from the time you accept the referral of a child. Referral time depends on the desires of each individual family. Most of the children brought to America are under twelve months old. A few have been older toddlers. All children in this program are placed in private foster homes during the process. Parents do not have to be present for the adoption procedures. Travel to unite with the children takes place 4 weeks after the final adoption decree.

There are three steps that can be worked on simultaneously. First, you must apply with the INS and be fingerprinted. Next, you can begin the Home Study process and finally, you must gather all documents for your Romanian dossier. CCIAA will assist you with each of these steps to assure nothing happens to delay or hinder the adoption process.
